CONCEPT

The management of the Cold Chain requires constantly maintaining thermal conditions to ensure food safety and quality. Current monitoring practices, based on manual or semi-automated systems, expose the supply chain to high risks. Growing global demand and stringent regulations call for a rethinking of traditional models. In this scenario, the adoption of innovative digital solutions becomes a decisive competitive factor. The Project proposes the development of an integrated technological platform for Cold Chain Governance. Through the use of IoT, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Analytics, it will be possible to collect and analyze data in real time. The framework will enable the assessment of data quality and the optimization of decision-making processes. This gives rise to an advanced digital model of the Cold Chain, secure, reliable, and sustainable.

Pilot Case: Interfrutta Srl Fatano 1880

Interfrutta Srl Fatano 1880 is an innovation-driven Company, selected as the Pilot Case for the transformation of Cold Chain management. Thanks to an advanced monitoring and data analysis framework, the company will enable timely and proactive decisions, promoting sustainability and efficiency.

Project Objective

The objective of the Project is to define an integrated technological platform with Data Analytics, Data Governance, and Process Modelling solutions, designed to:

  • Monitor logistics processes in real time and assess the quality of data related to thermal management to support quick and proactive decisions.
  • Support food industry operators in making timely decisions, anticipating risks, and proactively managing critical issues within the Cold Chain.

Expected Results

At the end of the Project, the following main results are expected:

  • Food safety with improved control of critical parameters.
  • Reduction of waste along the supply chain.
  • Operational efficiency with optimized logistics and resources.
  • Environmental sustainability through the reduction of the Cold Chain's ecological footprint.

2038IC'S ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE PROJECT

2038IC, an expert in process modelling and optimization, has taken on a leading role in the methodological definition and technological design of the project's key components. In particular, it worked on the Process Modelling and Optimization component, developing solutions aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of logistics processes. Specifically, 2038IC's contribution was structured around the following activities

  • Methodological definition and technological design of the Process Governance Component
Definition and design of the technological component enabling the modelling and optimization of Cold Chain-related processes, in order to guarantee a real-time monitoring tool for domain sensor data trends and the execution of operational tasks. The tool will enable interactive visualization of the process, of the tasks performed, and precise monitoring through a notification system.
  • Design of the Enabling Platform
Design of the project's integrated Platform and of the syntactic and semantic interoperability connectors. The goal of this activity will be to define a scalable technological infrastructure capable of hosting the project's components, the IoT data collection structures, and the analytics supporting Data & Process Governance.

Dissemination and Communication Activities

The dissemination of results is an essential activity for enhancing the knowledge and innovations developed within the project. Through communication tools such as videos, flyers, publications, and events, the project has promoted the sharing of results with the scientific community and other interested stakeholders, fostering their impact on the local area and the market.
